BOTANICAL ART WORKSHOP with Jude Wiesenfeld

This workshop is an introduction to the art of botanical painting. It is intended for anyone with some experience in watercolor, who is interested in this unique type of art.

We will cover the history of botanical art, basic plant and leaf shapes, how to study and make notes on your subject, masking and composition.

Everyone will start a painting on 140lb. Arches paper.

Materials list

• OttLite (or similar daylight bulb light source),
  
• sketchbook (at least 9” X 12”),
  
• 2B, 2H & HB pencils,
  
• watercolors and palette,

• a board to mount your paper (you can use cardboard from a

Knotless knitting may seem a primitive technique in terms of materials and tools, but there are numerous variations. The loops of yarn that are picked up on the thumb during each row can be changed, the needle may be moved over and under one loop or under and over two, three or more loops. These variations give a texture with varying impermeability, depending on their use. In view of the climate in Sweden, it was common to make knotless mittens, also called sewn mittens. Socks were also made with this technique, and in old times filter cloths used for screening milk. There were a number of names for knotless knitting in different dialects around Sweden.

Kathleen is a contemporary abstract artist working in watercolor, acrylic and  mixed media. Her work is inspired  by nature and  expresses organic subjects inviting the viewer to see and be aware of the beauty around them. The work is based on unique texture techniques to describe the varied earth forms that are all around us. 

 Her  art is created to help the viewer see and be aware of the electrifying beauty of nature but still create mystery.

Abstraction and the Figure

Paint with nationally known artist Michael Steirnagle and learn his approach to painting.  Michael has taught workshops throughout California and conducts a yearly workshop at the famous Scottsdale Artists’ School.  He exhibits at the Coda Gallery in Palm Desert as well as several galleries one the East Coast. 

This workshop is geared toward the painter who enjoys painting the figure but wants to learn how to move away from realism.  He will guide you through his methods of approaching a painting, paying attention to structure, motifs, color and most of all creating a sense of luminous light.  He will be demonstrating in oils, but the methods utilized apply to watercolor, acrylics and pastels as well.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO DRAW THE FIGURE WELL TO TAKE THIS WORKSHOP.  SOME PAINTING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED, HOWEVER.
