Art Where U R grant presentation

  • 04/18/2015
  • 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • Hemet - Ramona Bowl

The funder of the DAC $10,000 grant project, Art Where U R, is holding a required presentation day in Hemet this Saturday.  The "trade-show" like booths and demos will be held at the venue for the Ramona Pageant, and outdoor play staged annually at Hemet, California since 1923. The script is adapted from the 1884 novel Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson. It is held over three consecutive weekends in April and May in the Ramona Bowl, a natural amphitheater in the foothills above Hemet in Riverside County.

Grant Summary Reminder:  The eastern-most areas of the Coachella Valley are hugely underserved relative to artist support, art class opportunities and exposure to artistic methods and media.  Additionally, the cost of art supplies (paint, paper, canvas, clay, etc.) and the unavailability of local classes inhibits the development of talent and vision.  This disparity among desert communities is striking when compared to the concentration of artist supports, art instruction and commercial art galleries in the Palm Springs-to Indian Wells, Highway #111 corridor.  Through the ART WHERE U R project, DAC will reach out to three east-desert communities (Indio, Mecca/Thermal, and Coachella) to identify one day in each location for customized art instruction, community engagement and hands-on art work.  The project will touch the lives of emerging artists and will provide hands-on art instruction that embraces the multi-cultural (Native American, Anglo, Hispanic, Asian) and multi-lingual (e.g. mostly English and Spanish) communities.   DAC will partner with local arts organizations and community planners to identify the target population and coordinate space for the proposed classes.  DAC is rich with art teacher talent and will recruit art teachers who will team with a local artists and art organizations in the eastern valley communities.
