Featured Artists of December

Desert Art Center Galleries
The wild beauty of the high desert will make its way to the Desert Art Center on December 6 as four high-desert artists — Kathi Klopfenstein, Laurie Schafer, Nichole Vikdal and Holly Rae — feature their works in various mediums in the Small Gallery.
Kathi Klopfenstein - Sculptured Basket 2
Kathi, an artist from Yucca Valley, began her work in basketry two decades ago and her gorgeous free-form shapes have been exhibited in galleries in Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, Twenty Nine Palms, Redondo Beach and in Guilford, Connecticut, in addition to the Desert Art Center.
Laurie Schafer - Desert Vista From My Screen Door
Laurie Schafer lives in the high desert between Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley and, via her company Artwear, offers clothing that is a “collision” of art and fashion. Her unique tapestry works on silk dupioni feature imagery known as “stained glass applique.”
Nichole Vikdal - Joshua Tree in Blume
Nichole Vikdal is a potter who has made her home in the desert for the past twenty-five years. She makes all of her pottery on a wheel using a rare technique in which porcelain clay mixed with her own glazes offers up pieces where crystals are grown in the glaze. Her work can also be seen in the Riverside Art Museum.
Holly Rae - Jewelry
Holly Rae, a designer of specialty gowns and costumes by trade, moved into the world of jewelry to complement the clothing she made. Today she uses stones, crystals and copper to create pieces imbued with beauty and healing properties. Her motto is “Wear the beauty the earth has given us.”
Be sure to stop by throughout the weekend to see their amazing work…
