Abstractions in Cold Wax

September 21 and 28, 12:00 pm - 4 pm 2 sessions | 8 hours of hands-on instruction and play $175.00 registration fee + $25 materials fee paid to instructor during first class

This hands-on exploratory workshop is beginner friendly.  Participants will learn how cold wax and oils work in the painting process, safe practices, sculpting and painting tools, appropriate substrates, preparation of surfaces, finishing processes, and other mediums that make this forgiving, textural, and luscious medium so enjoyable to play with. All materials are provided. Water and snacks are on your own. Participants have the opportunity to make up to 12 small paintings on paper as we will work in a series. An itinerary and list of optional materials will be sent upon registration.

Watercolor Painting
Learn the basics of watercolor in a fun, relaxed setting. We’ll explore washes, layering, and color mixing while playing with different techniques.

DAC Open Studio
This open studio session is for any DAC artist currently enrolled in a class. Bring your own materials and supplies, and enjoy a quiet space to work independently on your projects. No instruction—just time to create at your own pace!

Handbuilt Ceramics
In this class, we’ll use simple handbuilding techniques like slab, coil, and pinch to make functional and sculptural pieces. 

Watercolor Painting
Dive into the world of watercolor and discover how fun and forgiving this medium can be. We’ll experiment with color, texture, and technique while exploring your personal style.

Handbuilt Ceramics: Explore the world of hand built and slab ceramics. Learn a variety of techniques to create functional or sculptural slab art. We will explore techniques for building, refining and glazing. ALL Levels welcome!

Life Drawing
Sharpen your drawing skills by working from a live model. This class focuses on gesture, proportion, and form through short and long poses. 

Watercolor Painting
Dive into the world of watercolor and discover how fun and forgiving this medium can be. We’ll experiment with color, texture, and technique while exploring your personal style.

Abstract Acrylic Painting:
This class is open to both beginners and experienced artists, with a focus on developing your personal style while working toward polished, professional results with an emphasis on mark making. 

Handbuilt Ceramics
In this class, we’ll use simple handbuilding techniques like slab, coil, and pinch to make functional and sculptural pieces. 

Off-Site Glass
This class meets at an off-site glass studio. All skill levels welcome. Details about location and materials will be provided upon registration. Class has limited space; Please contact instructor to inquire about availability.

We've partnered with Let's Go Travel to take a day trip to the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, CA. The fee is $120, which includes museum admission and roundtrip transportation from a pickup point in Palm Desert. Lunch is not included but is available onsite.

Hand-tinted Photography

Monday evenings in February at the DAC $175.00 registration fee + $20 printing fee paid to instructor during first session

Before color film photography came along in the early 1900s, photographs were hand-tinted using diluted oil paints. In this workshop series, participants will hand color photographic images using modern materials like watercolor, pastels, colored pencils, and diluted oils or acrylics. Participants will also learn best papers to print on, preparation, and archival finishing techniques. $20 printing fee covers prints made from participants' own photography.
